Unlike Saga of The Wild Hunt, which is most definitely not a Harry Potter fanfic, The Kahzer Chronicles did begin life as a fanfic. In fact, the stories that eventually all came together to become The Kahzer Chronicles were all Doctor Who or Torchwood fanfics that I had written over the years. The most recent of which, was only last year, when I entered a competition to try and write a new Big Finish Audio story. That story has become the basis for the upcoming season 2 storyline involving the twins, Sapphire and Topaz, and new character, Tazel Neff.
How did a bunch of random Doctor Who and Torchwood stories evolve into it's own universe? Well, I had been kind of prolific in my fanfic writing back in the day, but these worlds kept on growing and I felt that they deserved an identity of their own. Of course, that meant reworking many things, such as characters, locations, technologies and even mythology.
Kahzer was Gallifrey and as such, many important characters were Time Lords. Daikain, Schuyler's loyal guard (now) was The Doctor. Original versions talk of his changing face, but of course, Kahzerions don't regenerate, so his story became more of his evolving identity from loyal royal guard to intrepid adventurer, to loving husband and father to aimless wanderer before reuniting with Schuyler and Jeth and JJ, who was in the original version, The Doctor's daughter Jenny.
Jeth was former companion Ace, although that is only ever touched on briefly, as I'm more of a Romana I girl myself. Not the second Romana, I never really liked her myself, but then again, The Key to Time is one of the only original Doctor Who stories I've seen to completion (Oh, there was the one with the spiders...). It was my Dad's favourite and my introduction to the Doctor Who universe before the revival with Christopher Eccleston and all the amazing Doctor's who have followed since. The longwinded Kahzerion names are a nod to Galifreyan names such as Romanadvoratrelundar.
In the original versions of the The Kahzer Chronicles, back when it was a jumble of various stories, The Verikan Guard were the Time Agents and Kyle Lyncoln was the one and only Captain Jack Harkness, and his various team mates who you'll meet along the way were the Torchwood team, Ianto, Gwen, Toshiko and Owen. Everything is interconnected in a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.
Of course the world of The Kahzer Chronicles is still growing and evolving, morphing away from its roots as a fanfic and into a world all of its own. For now though, all 101 episodes of Season 1 are available on Mythrill.
