In 2012, Lu Price was still rattling around in my head. I hadn't done much writing since NaNoWriMo 2011 and I kept wondering, what had happened to her? Where did her career and personal life go after the events of Mahogany? So, Copper was born. At this point in my life, writing had still taken a backseat to life and University studies and I seemed to only write come NaNoWriMo. It was one month where I could put everything else aside and just write. I could tell everyone to leave me be and strangely enough, they did for he most part. Anyway, I wanted to know more abut Lu and where her career was going, so I put her in the Commissioner's office, which allowed me to work even further on her backstory and relationships with some of the cast from Mahogany. Of course, there was the aftermath of her relationship with Malcolm, but there were also car chases and explosions and shootouts. It was all very dramatic, but also not the end of her story.

Story Summary
Working in the Commissioner's office was supposed to be easy. After the events in Sydney (Mahogany, NaNoWriMo 2011) Tallulah was looking for a job to help her get her confidence back. How hard could filing and scheduling be? What she gets instead, is a kidnapping turned hostage situation, two assassination attempts, four murders and her old team thrust back upon her along with the Office of Police Integrity and the Special Operations Group. It could very well turn out to be even more dangerous and definitely more stressful to work for the Commissioner, then it was working undercover.

The phone rang shortly after they'd finished eating.
“Price?” Tallulah said in response.
“Lu, it's Roy,” his voice was low and strained. She knew that voice. Had heard him use it in the past. “Camilerri?” she asked without prompting.
“Dead, shot this evening. Uniforms found him when they came to offer him protection. This guy's killed three in under twenty four hours.”
“And Kelleigh's the only one left?” Tallulah asked, already knowing the answer to her question.
“Yeah. Is he secure?” Alderman asked.
“I sent him home with a protection detail. He wasn't happy about it. Nelson and Double D, his usual guys are taking first shift and the Unit is rotating through on six hour shifts,” Tallulah explained. “If need be, I'll join the detail.”
“No you won't,” Alderman said. “He's going to need someone acting normal.”
“Normal?” Talluah cried. “Someone is trying to kill our boss!”
“We don't know that for sure,” Alderman said.
“We do so. Four people from his old unit are gunned down in a matter of days. Hell, three of of them in less than one. They're coming after Kelleigh. It might not be tomorrow, but they will come. Kelleigh's this perp's grand prize and he's going to work up to it.”
“Maybe Kelleigh was just the hardest to get to, given his position and the protection he has around him,” Alderman considered.
“Maybe,” Tallulah conceded. “But I don't think so.”
“Why not?”
“I don't know Roy, my gut is telling me this is about Kelleigh and that's why he's still alive.”
