The Untitled and Unfulfilled Story of Wynnona the Chef (NaNoWriMo 2016)

NaNoWriMo 2016, I was fresh off a creative writing course at university, although it might have been script writing. I had discovered cosy mysteries and wanted to try my hand at my own. Titled only Wynona after the main character, the story never actually developed far enough to get its own title or even a working title. 2016 was a truly abysmal year for my NaNoWriMo efforts where I only last for about three days and only made 3,609 words. Yikes! I don't know what happened, because I liked Wynn and her sidekick (cue love interest). He was called Darren Morrison and he was a priest, although to be honest, I really needed to some research into which religious orders allow their priests to have romantic partners and perhaps even marry.

Wynn was a chef, moving a small mountain town to open her new restaurant. Why a small mountain town, rather than the bustling city centre? She had family there that she felt needed her help. Her cousin, Jaimie who had been raised as her brother. Unfortunately he was murdered in the opening chapter and while trying to open her restaurant, Wynn engaged in trying to solve his murder, while also trying to hit self destruct on her own life! Her relationship with Darren, the local vicar is both a new friendship, but also a source of comfort and tension as her own destructive tendencies try to push him away.

Unfortunately there is no story excerpt from Wynnona and there are no plans to finish the story any time soon, but never say never!

Story Description

The small mountain town of Cherrybrook was supposed to be a fresh start for Chef, Wynnona Lester. Moving there to support her cousin Jaimie and open her own restaurant, Wyn thought everything was finally going to plan.

Until a few Geocachers in search of their next cache stumble across the body of Wyn's cousin...

Written off as a drug transaction gone wrong, local Detectives refuse to take the case seriously and Wyn becomes concerned that Jaimie's murderer will roam free.

Along with her best friend and 'maybe something more,' Anglican Priest, Darren Morrison, she sets out to discover the truth. Wyn and Darren discover an underside to Cherrybrook that neither knew was there.

Amidst opening her restaurant, pancake breakfasts at the church and a potential romance, can Wyn open her restaurant and solve Jaimie's murder, without destroying her relationship with Darren?
